If we could tell the future from what is written in our history, we could use the simple browser properties to have it take predicted actions.
The browser recognizes links on a html page as visited or not and displays them by default in different colors.
Browser's memory of what it has "already seen" is making it up for the lack of attention we exhibit while browsing and provide some sort of orientation in the public domain. Knowing your past and present locations makes it easier to decide where to go next.
"go to the future" takes you to a tour through random generated domain names from a "soup" of letters that I stripped from links that appear as visited in the browser. If you decide to follow the "prophecy" you will add the future links to the list that gets recognized as visited.
